Marvel Studios News Round-Up

It has been a busy week or so in the world of Marvel Studios. Here’s the pick of what has been going down:

  • Ant-Man

Hot on the heels of the news that Michael Douglas will be playing Hank Pym, Variety are reporting the Lost and Hobbit alumni Evangeline Lilly is in talks to play an original character in Marvel’s upcoming flick.

  • Avengers

It looks like Paul Bettany will be on double duty in the next cross over epic in the series. Bettany (who already voices Tony Stark’s computerised butler J.A.R.V.I.S.) has signed on to play The Vision. In the comics, The Vision is an android originally built by Ultron to serve his dastardly deeds, but ends up siding with the heroes.

  • Captain America

Disney Chief Robert Iger has claimed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will directly set up Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. It may also spill into Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. too.

Still on the Cap front, Deadline are reporting that Reaper creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have been hired to write/executive produce the new Agent Carter series for ABC. The show will see Hayley Atwell reprise the role she played in Captain America: The First Avenger and the Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter, which was a bonus feature on the Iron Man 3 blu-ray release.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy

It is only a rumour at this stage, but JoBlo is reporting that Guardians of the Galaxy has been tentatively given the 6th May 2016 release slot for a sequel.

The article also ‘confirms’ the release of a Guardians… animated television series, pencilled in to debut on Disney XD in Autumn 2015. There seems to be little else on the web to corroborate these claims as yet, but that’s potentially fantastic news!

  • And finally…

Total Film have a cool little interview with Drew Pearce (he who made the All Hail the King one shot and who has a script for The Runaways sat at Marvel HQ).
