Fine Tuning is our newest music feature. Dropping approximately once a month, it rounds up some of the new and interesting tunes from the world of rock and metal.
In last month’s debut feature, we focussed on Cybernetic Witch Cult, DragonForce, Ghost Bath, Lacertilia and Pallbearer. Read on to see what caught our ear over the past month or so.
2nd Edition – April 2017
1476 – “Odessa”
1476 are an interesting duo hailing from New England. They are all about dark, atmospheric album-oriented music that draws upon many genres, including ambient, metal, neofolk and punk. Their latest release is the beautiful Our Season Draws Near. Here’s one of the tracks from it.
Alestorm – “Alestorm”
Scottish pirate-themed metallers Alestorm are gearing up for the release of No Grave But the Sea, their follow-up to 2014’s Sunset on the Golden Age. This eponymous single has just dropped and is the first release from the highly ancitipated album.
Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters – “Dunkerque / Nutbar”
These fuzzy stoner rockers are currently on tour with Lacertilia (featured last month). April has seen them release a vinyl split EP with the also excellent Ten Foot Wizard (featured later on in this article). Each band provided a brace of new tunes to rock out to. Here’s Chubby’s offering.
Deep Purple – “All I Got Is You”
To promote the release of their latest album InFinite, the rock legends have released the following video for it’s second single, All I Got Is You.
Locust Leaves – “Fall (Ptosi)”
Locust Leaves are in interesting Greek duo signed to I, Voidhanger Records. The featured track here is one of four from their latest release A Subtler Kind of Light, which features guest performances from Vorskaath (Zemial) and Ayloss (Spectral Lore). What they’ve produced is a very interesting progressive metal EP.
Mage – “Green”
Mammoth Mammoth – “Sleepwalker”
Aussie hard rockers Mammoth Mammoth are baack. Their latest album, Mount the Mountain, is out at the end of the month. To promote it, they’ve released this video for Sleepwalker.
Mutoid Man – “Melt Your Mind”
Mutoid Man are a sort of supergroup consisting of members of Cave In (Steve Brodsky), Converge (Ben Koller) and Bröhammer (Nick Cageo). Mixing rock, punk and metal into short, snappy, catchy tunes, they are surely destined for bigger things. Melt Your Mind is the lead single from their upcoming third album, War Moans.
Purson – “Chocolate Money”
Highly respected psychedelic rockers Purson announced an indefeinite hiatus late last year. Unfortunately, frontwoman Rosalie Cunningham has now confirmed it is a full split. Despite the sad news, there is still a small bit of happiness to come out of it all – one final swaggering psychedelic pop rock tune.
Royal Thunder – “The Sinking Chair”
The Atlantan rockers have just released their third album Wick (their first since moving from Relapse to Spinefarm Records). Here’s the video for their latest single The Sinking Chair.
Ten Foot Wizard – “Get Fucked / Night Witches”
As mentioned earlier in the article, the excellent Ten Foot Wizard are releasing a vinyl split EP with Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters. Here’s TFW’s brace of tracks from it.
Unleash the Archers – “Cleanse the Bloodlines”
One of the hottest up-and-coming bands in speed/trad metal are these Canadians. In anticipation of the release of their latest album Apex, they have released this single.
Voyager – “Ascension”
And finally, we have a single from talented Aussie prog metallers Voyager. Ascension is a beautiful track lifted from their latest release Ghost Mile.
That’s it for this edition Fine Tuning. Check back in May to see what caught out ear between now and then.
