Bloodstock ’17 | Bands to Check Out: Jagermeister Stage

In the run up to our favourite heavy metal festival, the Fake Geeks team are putting together a collection of content aimed at those that will be joining us at this year’s Bloodstock festival.

Over the past few days, we have been uploading posts highlighting bands to check out across each stage.

If you missed our recommendations for the Ronnie James Dio, Sophie Lancaster and Hobgoblin New Blood stages, you can check them out herehere and here respectively. Today we reveal our final recommendations – this time for the Jagermeister Stage.

The Headliners

Hanowar

Let’s face it, we’re exceptionlly unlikely to get Manowar at Bloodstock. However, BOA have booked the next best thing! Hanowar are an excellent Manowar covers band that went down an absolute storm the last time they played.

Departed

If it’s balls out rock and roll that does it for you, then the latest project from Ben Brookland (ex- The Treatment) and Mark Pascall (Empire of Fools) will be right up your alley.  Superstitious (lead single from their debut EP, see below) definitely has a Treatment vibe to it, but with also a nod to the no frills rock and roll of the 70s and 80s.

 Voodoo Blood

Voodoo Blood’s self-description of “Blues on Steroids” seems pretty apt. Closing out the stage this year are this talented, catchy quartet from Manchester. Getting rave reviews for their live shows, their bluesy, sleaze tinged hard rock is sure to go down a treat.

Further Listening:

Atragon

If you worship at the temple of fuzz, then Scottish doomsters Atragon are a must see.  Very much for fans of Electric Wizard’s brand of down tuned droney doom, Atragon will perform the soundtrack to your shuffle towards aural oblivion.

Biggus Riffus

What do you get when you combine former members of Conan, Groan, Ocean Collective and others? What? You mean you weren’t expecting straight-up rifftastic rock and roll? Well, that’s what you get with the aptly named Biggus Riffus, who are ready to rock you out on the Friday.

Electric Mother

Travelling all the way from Kirkwall in the Orkneys, Scotland’s Electric Mother will be look take everyone on a low tuned Stoner/Groove journey (with more than a dash of grunge thrown in too).

Everest Queen

If you’re in the mood for something heavier, then Everest Queen’s brand of Progressive Sludge Metal might just be the thing for you. Stevenage’s finest paint some impressive soundscapes, balancing out the progressive tendencies with a baseline sludgey sound.

Spyder Byte

Kent based quintet Spyder Byte are bringing thrash-tinged sleaze metal to Bloodstock this year. If you like your metal dirty and with plenty of solos, these guys are for you.

Twisted Illusion

Trying to pin down a description for Twisted Illusion is tricky, but there’s certainly a strong Rush vibe there, alongside some 80s and 90s style AOR. Very easy on there, whilst being subtly proggy, we think Twisted Illusion are going to be one of the sleeper hits of the festival.

That concludes our round-up of bands to check out at Bloodstock festival. We hope, like us, that you have an awesome time there. Who are you looking forward to seeing? Tell us in the comments below.
